soldiers came under attack in a remote mountainous region of southern
Afghanistan, sparking a gun battle in which one Taliban commander was

Hamidullah Khan Tokhi, said.
The clash occurred on Friday in the Barai Ghar mountains in Zabul
province, northeast of Kandahar, where nearly 50 Taliban fighters are
believed to be stationed, Mr. Tokhi said late on Saturday.
